Why the Automotive Future is Electric? VinFast Vietnam is leading the Way

Many car experts believe that electric cars are the future. Automotive hotshots see the future that electric cars will fill the world’s landscape and roads. The electric car, also known as an electric vehicle (EV), gives better opportunities in replacing fossil fuels in the transport sector.

In Europe, Germany is becoming the leading European country to adopt plug-in vehicles. Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) are automobiles that use battery and internal combustion engine (ICE) to run the machine. On the other hand, Norway has the highest market penetration per capita of electric cars , with 86.2% sales in 2021.

China is the leading country with the highest stock of highway-legal electric cars in Asia. The economic giant has about 7.8 million electric car units. However, Vietnam is now becoming an electric car manufacturer through a company known as VinFast. The new carmaker will stop manufacturing gasoline-powered cars in Hai Phong, Vietnam, by the end of 2022.

What is the VinFast EV brand of car?

VinFast is an infant automaker based in Vietnam. It is a subsidiary of Vietnam’s VinGroup, a conglomerate involved in other businesses, such as healthcare, real estate, and technology. The firm starts manufacturing gas-powered vehicles in 2017. Its manufacturing complex is in Hai Phong; a premier Vietnamese industrial city within the Red River delta and just 120 kilometers east of Hanoi.

In December 2021, VinFast Vietnam introduces its first batch of electric vehicles, the VF e34 EVs. The VF e34 is the first electric vehicle to be sold in Vietnam. The milestone is also the start of the company’s goal of bringing the brand into the US market.

What are VinFast plans for 2022?

VinFast announced on the first week of January 2022 that it will cease manufacturing gasoline-powered cars before the year ends. The company says that it will focus its research, development, and operations on developing battery-operated power trains for all its products.

The move makes VinFast the first automotive firm worldwide to switch to producing purely electric vehicles. The company believes that the decision will substantiate its standing as one of the leaders in the electric vehicle revolution.

What is VinFast VF8?

The VinFast VF8 is a 5-passenger vehicle similar in size to the Ford Edge. It is a mid-size 2-row SUV. The VF8 is in Vinfast’s SUV  category with 402Hp (299Kw) and 472lb-ft (640NM) torque. You might be confused with VF8 because it is known before as the VF e35 model.

The VF8 has a range of 316 miles (508km) based on the EETC (European Emission Test Cycle). Its rate of acceleration is from 0 to 60mph in 5.5 seconds. The vehicle’s EPA (Environmental Test Agency) rate is about 20% lower than other brands.

What is VinFast VF9?

The VF9 is formerly known as the VF e36 model. This model is a mid-size 3-row SUV and bigger than the VF8. The vehicle can accommodate six to seven passengers and targets 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds.

The VF9 has standard powertrains (two electric motors) with a combined power of 402Hp. The estimated range of VF9 at full charge is 422.5 miles (680km). It is bigger than the VF8, with dimensions of 201.5 inches by 78.7 inches by 67.7 inches.

How much VinFast cars cost?

In Vietnam, VinFast is dealing big with local battery producers for their needs. However, the company is investing $400 million to manufacture their own LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery cells in-house.

Currently, VF e34, the company’s flagship electric vehicle, sells for about VND690 million (USD30, 350) in the local market. VinFast car prices are lower than those from international brands. The VF8, on the other hand, sells for USD 41,000, while the VF9 has a price tag of USD 56,000.

VinFast Expansion in the US

VinFast is planning an aggressive growth by selling their EVs in the United States by the end of the year. The two EV models that the company plans to sell in North America are VF8 and the VF9. VinFast announced the plan in November 2021 at the CES event in Las Vegas.

VinFast Review

VinFast’s switching to an all-electric vehicle in 2022 is a rare feat in the automotive industry around the world. The company has been an inspiration for its goal of producing the environment-friendly vehicle to help in minimizing the effects of climate change in the future.

The company's expansion to foreign markets, such as North America, serves as an inspiration to other automakers.

Conclusion

There are many reasons why the automotive future is electric. Environmentalists believe that the electrification of the transportation industry brings benefits in terms of increased energy efficiency and reduced local pollution.

Many experts are confident that the issue of the long-term sustainability of EVs is on supply risks emphasis. Other automakers, like VinFast of Vietnam: try to keep the car battery supply sustainable. It is evident in the company’s effort of manufacturing their car battery on site.
